The Lost Prophecy
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Katie's flat - evening after the full moon.
17th-Mar-2006 09:15 pm
Katie gathered her hair into a ponytail as she walked out of the bedroom. Having just got home from her shift, she had decided to change into something comfortable before George arrived to help her sift through the collected evidence of the latest attack in Hogsmeade.

“I don’t care what they say, I am going to crack this case,” she mumbled to herself as she made her way to the kitchen to finish making supper for her and her partner.

“Merlin I hope he’s hungry,” she mumbled as she glanced at the large amount of pasta she had made.

George ran a hand through his unruly hair and tucked the bottle of wine he had bought under his arm, then knocked on the front door to Katie's flat.

He grinned broadly when she opened the door, and handed the woman the bottle of wine. "Smells wonderful, when do we eat?"

Brushing aside her as she motioned for him to go to the kitchen, he couldn't help but notice that Katie had all the files and parchments piled atop the sofa table. Quickly, George stopped and began to rummage through the myriad of parchment work, quickly becoming absorbed--he loved a good mystery, and this definitely was a good mystery.

"How about dinner by fire light and files?" He chuckled, taking off his coat and tossing it to a nearby chair. "Any new developments in the case?"

"And why do you look so...anything happen at the Ministry today?"

“We can eat now. I was just finishing up. And you brought wine, excellent,” Katie grinned as she took the bottle from him.

“Dinner by firelight and files is fine with me, as long as you open the wine,” she exclaimed as she handed him the bottle before pulling out her wand. Waving it in the direction of the kitchen, Katie moved the meal to the living room. Shrugging as George eyed the spread, complete with candles, now set up on a tablecloth in front of the fireplace she said, “I had it already set up in the kitchen. “I knew the candles were to much,” she muttured to herself.

“No, there hasn’t been anything new. Scowling at George’s mention of the Ministry, she flopped down on the sofa beside him. “They are all Wankers, I swear it. They aren’t doing anything. And I swear to Merlin, all they think I am capable of is collecting information. But, I am going to crack the case I swear it.

George grinned. "Well of course I can open a bottle of wine," he smirked, doing just that and filling their glasses as he settled in.

Picking up his plate, putting his wine glass to the table beside him, George picked up a file and ate as they worked. "Nothing new...you know, I'm beginning to think, Fred might be on to something with this whole deal of a cover up," he mused.

"And what do you mean, collecting information, Katie? Does this mean I am helping you do something you shouldn't be doing?" He asked with a gleam in his eyes as he nudged her with his elbow. "I just love it when a woman gets naughty."

As time passed, the fire warm upon skin, the empty plates gone, the bottle of wine empty, and the entire floor and table covered with files and parchment and sketches, George yawned, stretched out on the floor by the fire. "Bugger...I think the only connection we've made is that they all went to St Mungos in some way, shape or form after the attacks," he groaned, rolling to his back and closing his eyes. "Could these attacks be that random? Nothing in common...bugger, maybe there are other attacks elsewhere that might tie into these, after all," he rambled, his hand resting on his chest.

"Maybe it's as bloody well simple as Deatheaters gone amuck," he mused, feeling himself get lulled towards sleep.

“Yes, you are helping me do something I shouldn’t. They think that because I am a new Auror that I don’t have the ability to work the case on my own. All they want me to do is compile the information and hand it over to a senior Auror. Well, it isn’t going to happen. I am going to prove them wrong, I’m going to crack this case,” she insisted.

Katie rolled her eyes when he elbowed her. “Weasley, your incorrigible you know what right?” she chuckled tiredly.

*~*~*~*~*~*~

Katie blinked sleepily as she read over the latest file for what had to be the seventh time in the last hour. “I just don’t see-,” she murmured to herself as she read that the latest victim stated that he couldn’t do magic.

“Can’t do magic? I’ve seen this before. Where have I seen this before,” she exclaimed as she dropped the file and rummaged through the pile of folders on the table in front of her. Opening the file, she flipped through it until she found the medical report from St Mungo’s.

Her eyes widening excitedly as she finally noticed a connection she shouted,” George – George wake up - I think I found it. George!!!”

"What?! What?! What's happened?" George sputtered, sitting straight up, parchments and pictures now flying about him as he struggled to gain his senses as he rolled about the floor looking for his wand.

Now on his feet, slipping slightly on a file, wand finally in hand, George looked about, waiting for whatever danger it was that Katie was in. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

"Kate, what the blazes just happened?" He huffed, wand at the ready, but he finally noticed that the young woman was not moving, but grinning at him.

"Bloody hell, woman, what were you shouting about to wake me up? And it had best be good."

Katie could only stare at George in shock as she watched him sputter and flail about as he woke up in a start. Shaking her head she finally doubled over in laughter at the expression on his face.

“P-put your wand away. There is no attack…. Arms – legs going everywhere,” she snorted as she wiped the tears in the corner of her eyes. “Nothing happened – I was trying to get your attention. Well – actually. I found a connection in the case.”

“Remember that last fellow that got hit on the head and said he couldn’t do magic? Well he wasn’t the only one,” she exclaimed excitedly as she shoved the two files at him.”

“I think Fred was right.”

"That was not funny, Bell. Not funny in the least. I thought for a moment, Voldemort himself had appeared the way you were shouting to me," George huffed, placing his wand to the end table and moving to sit by the new Auror.

"Yeah, I remember this last one...took a nasty blow to the head, right? They thought that might be the cause of his memory loss. So what do you mean loss of magic in someone else, no less?"

George whistled lowly. "Merlin, don't even tease me about Fred being right," he sighed, looking at the parchments in Katie's hand. "If he were right, I'd never hear the end of it, the git."

"This bloke here was unable to do magic as well when he was left near dead....then did die...bloody hell...do you really think there is a connection?" He asked incredulously.

"Bugger, how many more could there be? And if not all these people lost their magic...they were just to throw the Ministry off the suspicion," he mused aloud, raking his hand through his hair. "Katie, do you know what this means?"

"These cases could just be the tip of something much more sinister than anyone dared imagine. But...but why in the bloody hell would someone need another wizard or witche's magic? And who?" The questions were boggling enough, the answers horrendous and perplexing.

Suddenly George sank to the floor to sift through the files once more, this time concentrating on the new, possible link.

"This could be happening everywhere but nobody knows it..."

“Well, I thought it was funny,” Katie snorted as she settled back down. “You’d think it were funny to if you saw what I just did.”

“And if Voldermort was here, I wouldn’t be shouting, I’d be hurling every hex I could think of,” she said seriously.

Taking the file from George’s hands, she flipped through it and pointed at a page. “I mean loss of magic. Look at these, its right here. I can’t believe we didn’t see it before.

She shrugged helplessly as she looked at the files in front of them. “I don’t know. These are just the cases we know about, the people we found.

I don’t know why would someone need other people’s magic. But could you imagine, the poor bastards. I – I don’t think I’d want to be left alive if someone took my magic away from me. I-” she trailed off as she visibly shudder.

Katie shook her head as she momentarily lost herself in thought. “I – I didn’t even think it was possible to steal someone’s magic and leave them with nothing.

“Your right it could be happening everywhere. But the thing is, we know it. Blood hell George, we need to crack this. We need to find out who’s doing this and why and we need to do it fast, before the get anyone else.”
23rd-Mar-2006 04:57 am (UTC)
George nodded his head in agreement as he listened to Katie. "This really needs to be figured out, and quick," he added. "But the question is, where do we start?"

"And why the blazes is this happening? And how? How, can you make a wizard or witch just suddenly have their magic evaporate? I've never heard of such."

Looking seriously to Katie, he sighed. "Losing your magic would be tragic, but I can think of a lot worse," he said most quietly. "A lot worse."

"But you're right, enough of this, we now have to let you take this to the Ministry. They should be able to get all their manpower into solving this...though helping out on the fringes would be my utmost pleasure," the redhead smiled conspiratorially.

"So...where do we begin?" He questioned, then leaned over and kissed the woman most soundly. Pulling back, he gave her a raised brow and thought to himself that he definitely had to inform the Order on this bit of information as soon as possible.
24th-Mar-2006 01:25 am (UTC)
"I'll talk to my supervisor in the morning. I hope they will take this serious and put some effort into solving this.

"And I would love your help, because I plan on solving this case," Katie said with determination.

Staring at George in shock, she struggled to catch her breath. Begin with that? Or the case?" she smirked as she looked at him appreciatively.
24th-Mar-2006 04:40 am (UTC)
George waggled his eyebrows most naughtily. "Well, we do have quite a bit of work that could be attempted tonight. Then again, we have gone over everything so many times we've forgotten our own names....and you are going to inform the Ministry in the morning...so..."

The redhead tossed the file in his hand to the table and in a flash, was now lying atop the giggling Auror as she found herself pinned against the sofa. "Now that you mention it, I think I'd prefer to get started on a midnight tumble," he announced in a low voice before nibbling at the base of her throat.

Lifting his head so that he met her startled gaze, George grinned wickedly. "That is if you're not opposed to the idea," he winked, as his left hand slid under her shirt to glide teasingly along her ribcage.
25th-Mar-2006 02:59 am (UTC)
"I think a midnight tumble is a most excellent way to end the evening," Katie grinned mischievously as she ran her hands down his back and over his rear.

"I hope you had nothing pressing to get to this evening?" Katie asked as she kissed and nipped a fiery path down his neck.
25th-Mar-2006 05:16 am (UTC)
"Pressing, aye?" George teased. "Depends on which manner of pressing you're referring to, woman," he huskily voiced before kissing her soundly.

Then by surprise, in their over-zealousness, the two tumbled to the floor. Laughing, slowly sitting up, removing his shirt and tossing it carelessly aside, the young wizard was once more back to business---just of another sort at this late hour.
