Lupin Household - late afternoon

Emmeline quietly shut the door behind her as she just finished checking on the young werewolf that was presently quietly resting in her guest room. Having went back to the shrieking shack shortly after dawn, she had decided, to take young Terry Boot home so she could keep an eye on him as he healed. Satisfied that he would be sleeping for at least several more hours, she made her way down to the master bedroom and slipped inside.

Noticing Remus awake, Emmeline smiled tenderly as she crawled on the bed beside him. “Hello – how are you feeling? Are you hungry? I have some soup downstairs and can have Mitzy bring it up.

"Mitzy is already got Master's soup." The House Elf brightly announced as she suddenly popped into the room, pleased to have foreseen her family's need. "Mitzy know her Master is awake and hungry from his bad night." The little elf said in her squeaking voice.

"Thank you Mitzy, I am quite famished actually." Remus smiled kindly on the small elf as she sat the tray over Remus' lap and fussed until she was satified everything was perfect for her kind master.

"And Mistress is not forgot either," Mitzy winked to Emmeline as she lifted the lid on a second bowl of the steaming soup.

Waving off the couple's thanks, Mitzy gave a last bow and disappeared as suddenly as she had appeared.

Emmeline had taken only three bites when Remus dropped his spoon into the now empty bowl and leaned back into the pillows with a satified sigh. "That was wonderful." Remus smiled.

Emmeline shook her head as she watched him lay back on the pillow. “I’m glad you liked the soup, you must have been more hungry then I thought.”

“Would you like mine? I’m not very hungry and can get more later,” she said as she sat her bowl on his tray.

Curling up beside him, Emmeline brushed his hair out of his face. “You’re looking much better. I think you’ll be up moving soon,” she smiled.

“So how are you feeling?” Emmeline asked softly.

Knowing what Emmeline was trying to do, and loving her all the more for it, Remus simply couldn't summon the engery to pretend all was well.

"How do I feel you ask? Well to be perfectly blunt I feel like a cold hearted murderer." Remus sighed, pushing away the bed tray.

The memory of the night they had escaped the castle ruins and fought their way out of the dark Romanian forest played in a never ending loop inside his head. And always Remus tryed to find something they, something HE, could have done differently - done to save his fallen friend, Su Chow.

Emmeline sighed as she took the tray from him and banished it to the kitchen with her wand. “You are not a murder Remus Lupin and I want you to put that thought out of your mind right this instant,” she insisted as she pulled the covers up to the middle of his chest.

“Chow was a seasoned order member, he knew the risks as well as the rest of us. He chose to go on the mission and it was his choice to go off on his own instead of leaving with the rest of us.”

“And there is nothing you, or any one else on the mission could have done to prevent him from doing so.”

“Now – I – I think we need to talk about the wedding. You know I do want to marry you before I am as old as Minerva.”

"But it was my decision to leave!" Remus hissed, his voice full of self-reproach and loathing. "I am the one that left him there. I should have done what Sirius wanted - I should have went back."

"We don't even know what exactly happened."

"The wedding?" Remus questioned as if Emmeline had spoken in some unknown language.

It was your decision to leave Remus because you had a responsibilty to the rest of us to get us out of there, and you didn't leave him there. He chose to stay, it was his choice to go off on his own. Do you know what would have happened if you and SIrius had have went back? You - you both would have been deas as well. And do you know what that would have done to me?" she whispered, her voice full of emotion.

She sighed deeply as she raked a hand through her hair. "I know we don't know what happen and we may never know. But, who ever had killed him must have been very powerful."

"Remus, you - you need to let this go. You wouldn't have changed anything. ANd, well, where ever Chow is now, I know he wouldn't blame you.

She chuckled as he looked at her in confusion when she mentioned the wedding. "Yes, our wedding, you know where we pledge ourselves in front of family and friends. The one my mother has been planing for months? You do still want to make an honest witch out of me and marry me, right?"
